Shockwave therapy.
Care for persistent pain.
An assessment-led treatment option for persistent heel and tendon pain. Our podiatrists explain your choices and help you decide whether shockwave therapy is right for you.
A clinical assessment is needed to confirm suitability.

What is shockwave therapy?
Shockwave therapy uses mechanical sound waves delivered through a handheld applicator placed against the skin. It is a non-invasive option that may be considered when some persistent foot and tendon problems have not improved enough with other care.
Plantar heel pain
Sometimes called plantar fasciitis or plantar fasciopathy, this affects the tissue along the sole of the foot near the heel.
Achilles tendon pain
Achilles tendinopathy can cause pain and stiffness in the tendon at the back of the ankle.
These are examples of conditions for which shockwave may be considered. An assessment helps establish the cause of your symptoms and the most appropriate options for you.
A clear course.
Clear pricing.
At Carlisle Road Foot Care, we recommend a course of six shockwave therapy appointments, usually scheduled about one week apart.
Your podiatrist will assess suitability and explain the expected benefits and limitations before treatment.
An initial assessment may be required separately from the six treatment appointments. Our reception team can confirm whether this is needed and any additional assessment fee.
Your appointment,
explained.
Understand your symptoms
Your podiatrist reviews your symptoms and medical history, examines the area and discusses suitability, alternatives and consent.
Target the affected area
Gel is applied to the skin and the handheld applicator is placed against the treatment area. Tell your podiatrist if you find it uncomfortable.
Support your next steps
You receive advice on activity after treatment and the next appointment in your course. Follow the guidance given for your individual condition.
Realistic expectations.
Personal care.
Shockwave therapy does not work for everyone. Evidence of benefit varies between conditions and studies. Your podiatrist will explain these uncertainties and discuss other options with you.
Shockwave therapy FAQs
A little more information before you contact us.
Does shockwave treatment hurt?
You may feel discomfort during treatment. Let your podiatrist know how it feels so they can respond to your comfort.
How many appointments do you recommend?
We recommend six treatment appointments, typically about one week apart. An initial assessment may be separate from this course.
How much does the course cost?
Each treatment appointment is £50, so six treatment appointments cost £300. Please contact reception to confirm whether you need a separate initial assessment and any additional assessment fee.
Are there any risks or side effects?
Temporary soreness, redness, swelling, bruising or altered sensation can occur. There is also a small risk of tendon or ligament rupture and other soft-tissue injury. Your podiatrist will discuss the risks relevant to you before treatment.
Can I exercise afterwards?
You may need to reduce strenuous or high-impact activity after treatment. Ask your podiatrist how this applies to your sport, work and daily activities, and follow your individual aftercare advice.
How do I arrange treatment?
Contact our reception team to ask about shockwave therapy and the assessment process. If you are unsure which appointment to choose online, please call before booking.
